Commuters on the Clinton-to-Mukilteo ferry route have been without one of the state’s newest vessels since Thanksgiving, but the Tokitae is set to return later this month.

A ferry spokesman said in an email the Tokitae, a 144-car Olympic-class vessel completed in early summer 2014, was pulled from service for annual maintenance Thanksgiving week. It was temporarily reassigned to the Edmonds-to-Kingston route for two weeks while the larger 188-vehicle Walla Walla received annual maintenance and a United States Coast Guard inspection.

Since late November, the Clinton/Mukilteo route has been serviced by the Kittitas and the Kitsap, both 124-vehicle vessels.

The Tokitae is planned to remain at Eagle Harbor for maintenance and is scheduled to return to the Clinton/Mukilteo route the week of Jan. 25.
