Langley CMA has new senior pastor
Langley Christian & Missionary Alliance church is pleased to welcome Pastor Dwight Ford as its new senior pastor.
Pastor Ford and his family are coming from New York City, N.Y. and will be joining the Whidbey Island community beginning this Sunday. He will begin a series of messages entitled “The DNA of the Church” and his first message in this series will be “The Church You Don’t See.”
On Sunday, Oct. 30, the church will have an installation service for Ford with representatives from its denominational offices officiating.
Ford will continue his three-part series Sunday, Nov. 6.
Every Sunday, the Langley church offers something for the whole family, beginning with an education hour at 9:15 and then worship at 10:30 a.m. Childcare is available for young ones up to 3 years old, and children’s worship is held for those ages 4 through the third grade.

‘Probation after Death’ is the topic
The topic for the next Christian Science service is “Probation After Death.”
It’s a message explained on the website for The Mother Church Youth: “The topic seems like a downer, right? I mean, first you die and then you’re on probation! Well, it’s a basic theme in a lot of Christian theologies. But is probation a punishment or did Jesus teach something different? He does and what he teaches makes this Bible lesson topic a lot more appealing.”
Through readings of the Bible and Science and Health, the Sunday service on Oct. 23 examines a spiritual perspective of death and how one can exchange the fear of death — which motivates many concerns about health — for the joy of life.
Services begin at 10:30 a.m. at 15910 Highway 525, just north of Bayview and across from Useless Bay Road. Everyone is welcome.
‘The Mystery of Discernment’ at Unity
Rev. Robbie Fahnestock will give the talk “The Mystery of Discernment” at the Unity of Whidbey service on Sunday.
Rev. Fahnestock returns with a reminder that the foundation for spiritual discernment is the willingness to see things differently; to step away from the way things have always been seen or done, and to consider the possibility that there’s something more, resulting in a new way to move or feel.
Fahnestock suggests that this willingness is drawn from the wisdom of one’s heart.
All are welcome to this interesting exploration. Melinda and Hannah Mack will provide the musical inspiration and QuinSerra will be the platform assistant. A Heart Circle will meet following the worship service.

Pastor Groce is guest speaker at SWCC
Pastor John Groce will be the guest speaker tomorrow morning at South Whidbey Community Church. His sermon topic will be “The Right Response to the Preaching of God’s Word,” based on the Old Testament book of Nehemiah, Chapter 8.
Sunday worship is from 10 to 11 a.m. and is preceded by an adult learning forum at 9 with Stan Walker leading a study in the Book of First Corinthians, and Rick Zapata leading a study in the Book of Genesis: the lives of the Patriarchs. These are open classes and everyone is invited.

Concepts about God at UUCWI on Sunday
Concepts about God vary, and Unitarian Universalists define the idea of God in many different ways.
At the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Whidbey Island service Sunday, Rev. Kit Ketcham will reflect on concepts of the divine and how these ideas affect people’s lives as part of her series about the perspectives of Unitarian Universalists.
All are welcome. Values-based children’s religious exploration classes and childcare will be provided.
