Gary L. Westergard

Gary L. Westergard

Gary L. Westergard passed away peacefully in his sleep on May 31. His struggle with Alzheimer’s Disease is now over.

Born April 12, 1937 in Aberdeen Wash., Gary spent happy summers on his grandmother’s farm in North Dakota. Gary graduated from Hoquiam High School where he was Yell King.

Gary was proud to serve in the US Marines for three years.

Gary met his future wife, Gaynell, at a Valentine’s Day dance in Seattle. They shared their love of travel by taking motor home trips around the U.S. and visiting many countries. Gary especially liked Turkey. Their early married years were spent in Idaho.

While his family was young, Gary went back to the University of Washington and graduated with a history major.

Gary’s career with General Electric Company took him to Alaska many times. Gary loved his family, hot rods, collecting most anything, Alaska, Idaho, North Dakota and telling stories about them all. He enjoyed being involved in Time Together and Readers Theater at Bayview Senior Center.

Readers Theater will pay tribute to Gary during their regular performance at 11:15 a.m. Tuesday June 30, at the Bayview Senior Center. All are welcome.

Gary is survived by his wife, Gaynell; son, Charles (Sarah) Westergard; daughter, Wendy Westergard; grandsons, Ian, Eric and Will Westergard; sisters, Myrna Peterson and Kathy Forman; and cousin, Ila Westergard-Thorpe. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations to WAIF or the Bayview Senior Center.
