James Lawrence Duffy

James Lawrence Duffy of Langley, died suddenly at home on March 2, 2006 at the age of 84.

Jim was loved and respected by many in the community. He felt strongly about being a contributor. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus, being an active officer for 10 years, and started the Knights’ portion of Adopt a Highway, for nine years. He was a past member of the Kiwanis International and their liasion to the Builders Club at the Middle School for years. Jim enjoyed tutoring with the Red Flyer Reading Program at the South Whidbey Intermediate School.

Jim’s passion was creative cooking. He was always working on a new recipe. Gardening, hunting and fishing were his to enjoy.

He was born in San Francisco to Ruth and James Duffy on July 24, 1921. Jim joined the Army and served in the Pacific during World War II.

Surviving Jim is his wife Jean; sons, Neal and Dawn Duffy, Kent and Monica Duffy; one daughter Angela and Chris Simmons; four grandchildren; and one brother, Richard Pool of California. Also as part of Jim’s family: Dan and Rebecca Sousa, John Sousa, Mari and Kevin Campbell, six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

A funeral mass will celebrate Jim’s life at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 11 at St. Hubert Catholic Church in Langley. A reception will follow at South Whidbey Senior Center.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Hubert’s Building Fund or St. Hubert’s Outreach Program.
