Robert ‘Bob’ Roberts: May 3, 1930 – Oct. 3, 2020

On Oct. 3, 2020, we lost our beloved husband, father, friend and brother, Robert “Bob” Roberts, born Robert Sussman in Weehawken, N.J., on May 3, 1930.

He left for California at age 10 and grew up in Santa Monica and Beverly Hills. Bob went to University High and graduated in 1948. He went to UCLA for two years and then into the U.S. Army. Bob was a TEP fraternity member at UCLA, making many lifelong friends. He was ironically stationed at Camp Roberts in California, and after serving, he graduated from UCLA in 1953.

Bob went to work for a bank and then traveled the world. He worked in real estate for most of his working life in Thousand Oaks, Calif.

In 1959, Bob met the love of his life, Anne. Anne was from Denmark and, after pursuing her across the world, they were engaged on Aug. 18, 1959. They married on Dec. 20, 1959, in a small Church in Vedbaek, Denmark. They eventually made their life in Thousand Oaks, Calif., where they raised three children, Tara Lise, Bradley and James.

Bob and Anne moved to Whidbey Island, Wash., in the 1980s. After the children were grown, they lived in Seattle before returning to Whidbey.

Bob and Anne had many friends and family all over the world. Bob was known for his kindness, integrity, generosity and sense of humor. He had six grandchildren, Zachary, Emily, Eli, Ari, Solomon and Donna.
