South Whidbey’s baseball team lost 18-3 Friday against Lakewood.

The Falcons knew from the start they were facing a tough opponent. The Cougars are one of the top-ranked teams in the Cascade Conference and 2A state classification.

South Whidbey had the lead going into the fourth inning, 2-1. Falcon junior Cameron Wildes pitched five innings and allowed five hits and six runs.

Lakewood picked up its first run in the first inning. The Falcons tied the game in the second on a two-out single by Ammon Christensen that scored Mason Shoudy from second base.

The Falcons took the lead in the third inning as Michael Agate had a one-out walk, stole second and scored on a Riley Newman double to right center.

In the Falcon fourth inning, the boys picked up their last run as Mason Shoudy again got on base by a walk and advanced to second by Ammon Christensen’s walk. Aaron Curfman lined a double down the right field line, scoring Shoudy from second.

The Lakewood sixth inning proved fatal for the Falcons as Wildes’ pitch count increased and the Falcon defense allowed eight unearned runs out of 12 that scored.
