Editor,
Editor,
Found on Friday, Oct. 21: While out for a nice walk near Wycliff and Wilkinson south of Langley, I noticed a blue Payless cloth bag in the grass on the side of the road. It was full of soggy mail from many different addresses, from Highway 525 to the Fairgrounds, which included things like Amazon bills, Bank of America statements, and Macy’s bills.
Action taken: Turned in to Freeland police. I hope they will go through all of the mail and contact everyone involved! At the very least, people will be missing some bills. At the worst, identities could have been stolen.
Editor,
Who do you trust? Our candidates for state Senate have made a commitment to not run negative campaigns against each other, and only talk about the issues. Two days in a row I’ve received negative campaign mailers against candidate Angie Homola. They claim to be from the Good Government Leadership Council, but both the Public Disclosure Commission and I traced their origin. Funding for these hit pieces came from lobbyist working for the insurance industry, big tobacco, payday lenders & debt collectors, out of state drug companies, and Wall Street banks.
Editor,
I recently saw some negative mail smearing Washington Senate candidate Angie Homola; unflattering photo-shopped picture, you know the genre. Curious about the nasty-sounding “record” it portrayed, I did some digging.
One typical example: “Before she was removed as an Island County Commissioner Homola voted 13 times to raise taxes, including property taxes.”
Editor,
Every four years presidential election hype proclaims an election as the most important ever. In truth some elections are more important than others. The election of Barack Obama in 2008 and the challenge of Donald Trump in 2016, for entirely different reasons, fit the important election category.
Obama’s election brought forth what is best about America, appealing to the “better angels of our being.” It was a positive affirmation of our diversity.
Editor,
I am appalled at Barbara Bailey’s hit piece that I got in the mail today — distortions, misrepresentations and outright falsehoods. This is the tone, the example she wants to set in her effort to get re-elected? For crying out loud, she attacks Angie Homola for voting to cut the county budget, cuts that were essential to balance the budget during the great recession. Bailey also claims that Homola was “let go” from her job as a county building inspector, a claim which is simply not true.
